The Minister of Culture and Sports, Patricia del Pozo, has announced in the Culture and Sports Committee of the Parliament actions worth more than one million euros at the La Cartuja Sports Facilities, located in Santiponce. These actions will focus on improving accessibility and eliminating barriers, automating access doors, adapting spaces for user access, and optimizing turnstiles and control points.
These actions, as the Minister explained, complement the roof waterproofing works, and the recently awarded improvements in the changing rooms and toilets, as well as the current actions to improve the energy efficiency of the athletics tracks, the project of the new indoor building, and the new golf driving range tee. These actions, the Minister stated, «demonstrate the commitment of the Andalusian Government to these sports facilities, built for the Expo’92, where more than four million euros have been invested since 2019, and where work will continue.»
Del Pozo detailed that in the past year, «improvement and conditioning investments were made in these facilities, with an investment reaching 195,000 euros,» including the metal enclosure to delimit user routes, the barrier for parking access, improvements in automated access through turnstiles, the creation of the pedestrian ramp to the 3×3 court, the installation of 3,000-liter ACS accumulators, as well as work on the pedestrian access ramp and the repair of the athletics track, nearing completion.
This sports complex, the second largest managed by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, after the La Garza Sports Park, features 9 holes, a practice tee, 10 paddle tennis courts (4 of them covered), a gym, athletics track, natural grass field, and artificial turf field (both for football 11, rugby, or football 7).
These are «large-scale facilities, with over 26,000 square meters and over 35 years old, requiring constant investments, improvements, updates, and maintenance,» noted Del Pozo. Additionally, the Ministry currently has 21 collaboration agreements with various Andalusian sports federations, which include, among other aspects, discounts on facility usage.
Finally, the Sports Minister emphasized that the La Cartuja sports facilities are not a High-Performance Center, as the Specialized High-Performance Center for Rowing and Canoeing in Sevilla is. However, they are a fantastic space for sports practice at all levels, receiving over 340,000 uses per year.
