Octava edición del certamen ‘Re-Crea’ con el lema ‘Desde la raíz’

The City Council of Granada, in collaboration with Inagra, has once again organized the art creation and recycling competition ‘Re-Crea’, which, in its eighth edition, will be titled ‘From the Root’ in reference to the theme chosen in 2024 to commemorate World Environment Day: ‘Our lands. Our future. We are the #GenerationRestoration’.

The Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada (UGR) and the School of Art and Design José Val del Omar of Granada are collaborating again in the development of this contest aimed at students and former students of both institutions. The competition aims to promote «a committed look towards environmental care and sustainable living habits through the transformation of recycled materials into authentic works of art,» as explained by the Councilor of Street Cleaning, Ana Sánchez, in a statement.

The new edition of the contest is focused on the need to restore lands, stop desertification, and strengthen resilience to drought. Therefore, the competition invites an artistic reflection on the role of land in the climate system, as it acts as a carbon sink, providing essential elements for life such as oxygen, nutrients, and water.

Creators who wish to participate in this edition can submit their original plastic works related to the theme of the contest from April 28 to 30 at the Faculty of Fine Arts or at the School of Art and Design José Val del Omar. To do so, they must register online through the registration form available on the Inagra website (‘www.inagra.es’). In addition to including the title of the work, the category it belongs to, the author’s name and CV, a brief explanation or justification along with a photograph of the work must be attached.

This new edition of ‘Re-Crea’ includes four categories: three are based on different urban recycling containers (paper-cardboard, light packaging, and glass), while the other category, Punto Limpio, includes works based on other materials, textiles, and woods.

The presented works must be sturdy enough to withstand handling and exhibition, and they must be mostly made with materials specific to each category. For example, the Blue category is based on paper and cardboard works (cardboard boxes, newspapers, or magazines), the Yellow category includes all types of light packaging (plastic bottles, bags, or containers), the Green category is dedicated to glass (bottles and glass containers), and the Punto Limpio category consists of various materials (reused products or materials from any other waste container, including textiles and woods).

In this edition, the amount for the winning authors has increased, as they are eligible for three unique prizes regardless of the category in which they submit their work. A jury composed of a representative from the Environmental Department of the Granada City Council, a representative from Inagra, two representatives from the Faculty of Fine Arts, and two representatives from the School of Art and Design José Val del Omar will award a first prize of 1,500 euros, a second prize of 1,000 euros, and a third prize of 500 euros –gross amounts subject to the corresponding income tax withholding– based on the value, quality, and relevance of the work to the proposed theme.

After the submission of the works, the jury will select the pieces that will participate in a collective exhibition opening on Friday, May 19, right after the celebration of World Recycling Day, in the Courtyard of the Granada City Council. The exhibition will remain open until Thursday, June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day. Additionally, all authors selected for the exhibition will receive a participation diploma and a catalog of the exhibition during the award ceremony.
