Andalucía celebra los avances de las mujeres y reivindica la igualdad real

The Minister of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality, Loles López, emphasized during the institutional event on the occasion of International Women’s Day celebrated in Huelva that in «the week of 8M it is time to demand, but also celebrate all the progress in equality that society has achieved«. An event that had as its central activity the ‘Generations in Equality’ meeting where men and women from different generations discussed the progress and pending challenges to achieve real and effective equality.

Loles López stressed that «we are in a week of demands, because it is true that there is still much to do and much to progress, but we must also celebrate all the steps that have been taken by society.» In this regard, she pointed out that «Andalusia is the second region where female unemployment has decreased the most since 2018, the gender pay gap has been reduced by seven points, and more than half of the self-employed individuals who joined in 2024 were women.»

She also expressed her satisfaction that «Andalusia has, for the first time, a Pact for Conciliation and Co-responsibility, financial aid for minors orphaned by gender violence, and this week we have presented the mobile application ‘ANDALUZAA: Woman, present and future’, in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment, where we bring together all job offers and training opportunities for women in one place.» At this point, she affirmed that «if a woman does not have economic autonomy, she does not have freedom; and without freedom, there is no equality».

López, who thanked the media for their involvement in equality and the eradication of gender violence, insisted that «equality is not an issue exclusive to this ministry, not even to the Andalusian government, it is an issue that commits all of society, men and women.»

The Andalusian official had a meeting with two elderly individuals, a woman and a man, from the Mora Claros Active Participation Center and two students, a girl and a boy, from the Virgen de Belén High School in Huelva, where they discussed the current situation of women in society, focusing on the evolution of women’s rights in recent years and the struggle of past generations that has allowed progress in this area today, while older and younger individuals were able to share experiences, assessments, and challenges.

Generations in Equality

This meeting, held in all Andalusian provinces, promotes intergenerational coexistence by bringing together young and old with the aim of demonstrating that the fight for real equality has no age or gender, each person plays a fundamental role in making equality between men and women total, complete, and effective.

Likewise, during this institutional event, the Government Delegate in Huelva, José Manuel Correa, the Director of the Andalusian Women’s Institute, Olga Carrión, and the Territorial Delegate for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality, José Manuel Borrero, read the institutional declaration on the occasion of International Women’s Day approved last Wednesday by the Council of Government reaffirming the commitment of the Andalusian Government to «work tirelessly» for the achievement of «a land of free and equal men and women.» «Andalusia of free and equal men and women,» the text emphasizes.

Also, the Provincial Coordinator of the Andalusian Women’s Institute in Huelva, Laura Sánchez, presented the institutional campaign for 8M, which champions the role of women in Andalusian society, focusing on the rural area. Under the slogan ‘Women as a Flag’, this initiative of social awareness and consciousness takes a journey through all those essential and anonymous rural women who have contributed to the progress of Andalusia.

High-ranking officials from the Andalusian Government, the Andalusian Youth Institute, representatives from the Andalusian Parliament, the Congress of Deputies, and social agents from the province, as well as the President of the Port of Huelva, Alberto Santana, attended the institutional event held at the Provincial Women’s Center in Huelva.

She did so at the commemorative institutional event of 8M held in Jaén, accompanied by the Government Delegate of the Junta in the province, Jesús Estrella, where she emphasized the fundamental role of women in strategic sectors, especially in the Environment.
