The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development will begin improvement works on the Camino del Práctico at the beginning of next March, a historic agricultural route that connects the towns of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Trebujena in the province of Cádiz.
Specifically, the adaptation works will focus on the more than 21 kilometers of this path, a «historic request» from farmers in both towns who use this route to access the Monte Algaida production area.
This project, with an investment of 5,848,542.18 euros from the Government of Andalusia, will focus on improving the entire route, with gravel compaction and two asphalted areas: up to kilometer 7.800 and the last 6 kilometers of the route. With this intervention, the Andalusian Government responds to the farmers of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Trebujena, as well as other users who use the Camino del Práctico to access potato and vegetable production areas, as well as existing fish farms and the Sanlúcar de Barrameda fish market.
The territorial delegate of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development in Cádiz, Francisco Moreno, and the Director General of Agricultural and Livestock Production, Daniel Quesada, have met with the Mayor of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Carmen Álvarez, and her counterpart in Trebujena, Ramón Galán, to explain the details of the project and announce the upcoming start of the works, which will benefit the numerous farmers and fish farmers in this area.

As Francisco Moreno highlights, the start of works on this route is a commitment made by the Ministry «that aims to facilitate daily work in the fields and fish farms accessed by the Camino del Práctico, in order to promote their growth and development with an intervention that will also improve connectivity between these two strategic points in the Doñana environment.»
On the other hand, the Mayor of Sanlúcar de Barrameda has emphasized that this project fulfills commitments made to the Monte Algaida Irrigation Community, «which has been demanding these works for many years, along with the agricultural and fishing sectors and the entire population of Sanlúcar, given the importance of these vital productive activities for the city’s economy.»
A fundamental infrastructure
For Ramón Galán, this investment will significantly improve «a fundamental infrastructure for the sustainable development of our natural environment, as it is a route that passes through marshes and the Guadalquivir River.» In this regard, the Mayor of Trebujena points out that the improvement of the Camino del Práctico «will benefit activities crucial to our economy such as aquaculture and the development of future activities related to the blue economy, as well as provide us with a new direct communication route with the Algaida pine forest and Sanlúcar de Barrameda.»
