On Saturday, March 1, the enrollment process for the 2025/2026 school year begins in the 438 publicly funded centers for Early Childhood Education (second cycle), Primary Education, Special Education, Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), and Baccalaureate.
The deadline for submitting applications will remain open until March 31. For the upcoming school year, the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training has offered a total of 155,908 publicly funded places, of which 76.79 percent correspond to public centers and 23.21 percent to subsidized centers.
In the case of 3-year-old students entering the educational system for the first time, 11,147 new entry places have been made available, with 79.81 percent in public centers and 20.19 percent in subsidized centers. The enrollment process includes both children entering the educational system for the first time, whether in public or subsidized centers, and students requesting a change of school.
According to census data, there has been a decrease in the number of 3-year-old children entering schools between the previous and current school year. Specifically, for the current school year, there are 7,057 children born in 2022, representing a decrease of 26 compared to those born in 2021.
Nevertheless, the Ministry has maintained a wide offer of places for new entry students in the second cycle of Early Childhood Education, with the aim of ensuring families’ freedom of choice in selecting a center.
Regarding additional services, the morning classroom service will be offered in three more centers compared to this school year, totaling 171 centers; two more centers are authorized to offer the school lunch service, reaching 256 centers; and 171 centers will have extracurricular activities.
Since the 2019/20 school year, the number of centers with morning classrooms has increased by 25, those with school lunch services by 11, and those with extracurricular activities by three. In the current school year, 95.92 percent of families have secured a place in their first-choice center, while 99 percent have obtained a spot in one of their preferred centers.
Furthermore, the draw to resolve tie situations, after applying the criteria in the admission requests for the current 2024/25 school year in public and subsidized centers in the province of Granada, resolved 42 situations, compared to 116 in the 2018-19 school year, indicating a 63.8 percent reduction, making the process more secure and improving the free choice of center by Andalusian families.
Additionally, for the current school year, the Ministry has grouped 224 siblings in educational centers, compared to 154 in the 2020-21 school year when the new enrollment decree came into effect. In the last five years, a total of 1,031 siblings have been grouped in educational centers.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
Regarding the admission criteria applied when there are not enough places in schools or institutes to accommodate all requests, there are no changes for the next school year, meaning the same conditions remain. Therefore, 14 points will be awarded for having siblings in the center and for proximity to the family’s residence.
Additionally, points will be given if the student to be enrolled was born as part of a multiple birth (one point), and the criteria granting points for having a child enrolled in the first cycle of Early Childhood Education are maintained to promote enrollment in this stage; legal guardians with a remunerated work or professional activity; the academic record of students for admission to Baccalaureate; annual per capita income of the family unit; and disability or developmental disorder.
The same assumptions and points for belonging to a large family, single-parent family, or a family with two children continue to apply.
Priority admission cases include representatives or legal guardians of the student who have their regular job at the center where they are applying for admission; performance-based athletes to study at a center near where they train and pursue their sports career, being family members up to the second degree of consanguinity of a victim of terrorism, and children in foster care.
PROCEDURE
The enrollment procedure begins with the publication by educational centers of the list of vacant school places, as well as information on the cadastral addresses within their areas of influence and neighboring areas.
When the number of available places matches or exceeds the demand, applicants will be admitted. In cases where not all requests can be accommodated, they will be evaluated based on criteria. Each educational center will publicly display, until April 22, the list of applicants with their assigned scores, and from that date, there will be a 10-day period for submitting appeals.
If there are tie situations after applying the evaluation criteria (siblings in the center, family or work address, annual income, disability, large family or single-parent family with two children, legal guardians with a remunerated work activity, enrollment in the first cycle of Early Childhood Education, and academic record for Baccalaureate admission), the result of a public draw held on May 14 will be used, once the admission process is closed.
The final list of admitted and non-admitted students will be published on May 15. Through the School Enrollment Portal on the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training website, families will have access to information about educational centers, courses, and the additional services offered, as well as the regulatory framework and the application form, which can be submitted electronically or at the schools and institutes.
Additionally, the iEscolariza app allows for queries about centers and evaluation points based on address. Through this tool, families will receive free notifications about the process and their application. The Ministry has also set up a toll-free information hotline (900 848 000), available continuously from 8:00 to 19:00.
