The President of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, has inaugurated the IES Ana Carmona ‘Veleta’ in the municipality of Mijas in Malaga, showcasing the commitment of the Andalusian government to public education in Andalusia. This center is spacious, modern, and fully equipped to meet the needs of the municipality in secondary and high school education, with an investment of over 7 million euros, providing the educational community in the Las Lagunas area with infrastructure on par with the best in Andalusia.

Moreno made reference to the name of this institute, Ana Carmona ‘Veleta’, a woman who, as he stated, was «brave, full of talent and courage, who knew how to stand up and defend her vocation in a world of men, as the sports field was back then.»

In this regard, he pointed out that this Secondary Education Institute is the largest educational center of its kind in Andalusia, with spacious and suitable facilities for a municipality with a historical deficit of public educational centers.

He explained that it consists of 24 multipurpose classrooms and a total of 720 school places, in addition to the library, gymnasium, workshops, laboratories, sports fields, school garden, play area, and gardens with orange and palm trees. He also mentioned that the collaboration of the City Council has been essential for this achievement to become a reality today.

The Andalusian President recalled that since 2019, over 8 million euros have been allocated to nearly twenty construction, expansion, and renovation projects in Mijas, specifying that 430 projects have been completed in this province since 2019, with an investment exceeding 82 million euros. Additionally, there are 48 ongoing projects in Malaga worth 15 million euros. «In summary, investments and actions that attest to the fact that public education in Andalusia and in Malaga is experiencing a new reality today.»

On a different note, Moreno stated that the enrollment process in Andalusia for the 2025-2026 school year is already underway, with the activation of a measure that benefits middle-class workers and protects families in need. Starting April 1, Andalusian families can begin registering their 2-year-old children for free access to public and subsidized nursery schools next year. «Thus, from September, public education in Andalusia will be free from ages 2 to 16
