PSOE logra apoyo unánime para más recursos contra el virus del Nilo en Granada

The socialist group in the Granada Provincial Council has achieved «unanimous support» in the plenary session of this institution for municipalities to have more resources to combat the Nile virus. Additionally, they have garnered the support of all other political groups, except for Vox, against Donald Trump’s tariffs due to their negative consequences in the province.

Provincial deputy Paqui Santaella highlighted in a statement that, thanks to a socialist motion, municipalities in the province will have increased funding to address the health threat posed by the Nile virus. She noted that the PP government «missed the opportunity to bring a budget modification to the April plenary to make these aids effective.»

«The mayors would have appreciated it even more,» Santaella emphasized, urging the government of Francisco Rodríguez to make this increase in financial resources effective and provide training to municipal staff. «The mosquito’s life cycle doesn’t understand ‘I can or I can’t now.’ The Provincial Council should react now, as soon as the heat starts and the water areas dry up, infections could start to proliferate,» she said.

DAMAGING TARIFFS FOR THE GRANADA COUNTRYSIDE

At the proposal of the PSOE in the Provincial Council, the plenary has also mostly positioned itself against – except for Vox, who voted in favor – the tariffs imposed by the United States that affect the Granada countryside. This was done through a motion requesting the Junta, like those already promoted by the Spanish Government, to «define specific measures to mitigate the effects of this Trump measure,» as stated by provincial deputy Paco Cuenca, who emphasized that this moment requires «unity, strength, and collaboration.»

Cuenca stated that «sometimes it’s difficult to understand the alliances of the PP with Vox» and criticized Vox for not taking any photos in the countryside, despite often doing so. It seems to bother them to be close friends with Trump, who is causing trouble for farmers and ranchers. It is also not coherent for the PP to defend the countryside and productive fabric of Granada while simultaneously being aligned with the friend of the US president in some places.

Conversely, the PP once again voted against a PSOE motion to use the nearly 190 million euros in surpluses held by the Provincial Council for a series of «positive» proposals to help municipalities in the province, especially the smaller ones, address their needs and improve the lives of the population.

«The PP should take responsibility and consider the proposals sent by numerous mayors,» said provincial deputy Ismael Padilla, criticizing the Rodríguez government for «consistently denying the resources that have long been requested to address specific issues that require funding that has not been provided.»

The socialist lamented that the right-wing rejects promoting extraordinary plans for Social Urgency or Cave Dwellings, extraordinary investments with a higher amount, a Provincial Plan for Archaeological Heritage, the completion of Lorca’s Route through his native Vega, promoting the poet’s houses in Valderrubio, a Provincial Cultural Tour, hiring tourism technicians in areas with high tourism potential, and providing extraordinary aid for climate emergencies or managing feline colonies in municipalities.
