La Junta intervendrá en Martínez Montañés de Sevilla con proyecto social de 13 millones

The Andalusian government will face a comprehensive intervention in Martínez Montañés, in the Polígono Sur area of Seville, with a social project of over 13 million euros. The Minister of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing, Rocío Díaz, presented this intervention alongside the Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, and residents and groups from the neighborhood. The government will focus its actions on the construction of 92 new homes and various works on 512 other public housing units, as well as the provision of sports facilities next to the ‘Central Vacancy’ park.

Rocío Díaz stated that this intervention represents «an open door to the future of this neighborhood and its residents,» with «a comprehensive improvement of the public housing park of the Andalusian government in Martínez Montañés.» She emphasized the need for a deep transformation in the neighborhood, replacing demolished or dilapidated blocks with new buildings that symbolize the neighborhood’s change. She also called for the collaboration of entities and residents.

The Mayor of Seville explained that the goal of the City Council is to enhance the quality of life in all neighborhoods of Seville, including Polígono Sur. Together with the Andalusian government, they are responding to the needs of this neighborhood with the implementation of an ambitious project for the integral remodeling of Martínez Montañés, aiming to promote urban regeneration and social cohesion.

As part of the plan, the Carretera de Su Eminencia will be redeveloped, with new paving, sidewalks, parking areas, bike lanes, green areas with new trees, and a green corridor connecting the neighborhood to Parque Guadaíra. The City Council’s investment in this project exceeds six million euros.

The first phase of the intervention will begin in blocks one, two, and three of Martínez Montañés. The Andalusian government will allocate nearly five million euros for these actions, sourced from the Andalusia 2021-2027 ERDF Program and its own funds.

Díaz highlighted that the strategic operation will involve the construction of 30 new public housing units in a currently closed building, similar to the reconstruction carried out in a block on Calle El Nombre de la Rosa. These works are expected to be tendered after the summer.

In the coming autumn, the Ministry of Development will tender another block of interventions for the rehabilitation of 80 more housing units. These interventions will include kitchen and bathroom renovations, replacement of supply, sanitation, and electrical installations, as well as repairs to damaged flooring and tiling.

By 2026, the remaining actions in the first phase will be contracted, with improvements in the common areas of 432 other housing units. Four buildings will undergo facade renovations, painting, metal elements, and roof water drainage installations, while 17 other blocks will have facade repairs and painting.

In addition to these works, an area next to the Martínez Montañés park will be adapted to provide sports facilities such as football and basketball courts, petanque areas, and gym equipment for seniors.

Furthermore, the Andalusian government is laying the groundwork for a second phase in Martínez Montañés, focusing on blocks five and six of the neighborhood. This phase will involve the construction of 62 housing units, with an estimated investment of over eight million euros.

The new homes will be allocated to families living in severely deteriorated homes that were assigned decades ago without meeting proper habitability standards. The urban modifications needed to transform these degraded buildings into urban spaces with open green areas facing Carretera de su Eminencia will be carried out in agreement with the signed protocol with the Seville City Council. These four blocks will be demolished once the residents are relocated.

With this intervention, the Juanma Moreno government continues to address the needs of the residents of Polígono Sur. Since 2019, the Andalusian government has executed works worth over 4.7 million euros to drive the transformation of this neighborhood and enhance the quality of life for its residents. This investment has led to the construction of 16 public housing units on Calle Nombre de la Rosa, the comprehensive renovation of a building, improvements to 742 housing units through electrical upgrades, and the adaptation of the area known as ‘Central Vacancy’ into a green space.
