La Junta firma un protocolo para proteger el patrimonio arqueológico en las obras del Metro de Sevilla.
The Andalusian Government takes another step forward in the advancement of the Line 3 of the Seville Metro with the signing of a Collaboration Protocol to preserve the archaeological heritage without interfering with the pace of the subway works between Pino Montano and Prado de San Sebastián. The Minister of Development, Territorial Articulation and Housing, Rocío Díaz, and the Minister of Culture and Sports, Patricia del Pozo, have signed this agreement, which will ensure that the works progress in a coordinated manner in the face of possible findings.
Rocío Díaz has indicated that this signing represents «a firm step towards institutional collaboration to reconcile two objectives of the Andalusian Government: the promotion of sustainable mobility infrastructures and the protection of the valuable cultural heritage of Andalusia«. It is about collaborating so that «the teams of both departments work together on these works and especially in the sections that run through the historic ensemble of the city, which is an area with a high archaeological value».
This protocol, she added, is of vital importance for Seville, a city with a significant historical legacy. Thus, she emphasized that «any large infrastructure, such as the new metro line, must be built respecting and caring for that heritage without hindering the city’s growth. Mobility and culture must go hand in hand«.
For her part, Patricia del Pozo has highlighted that «the Andalusian Government has the firm will to combine, through this protocol, the historical and heritage values with the general interest represented by the construction of a first-rate infrastructure like Line 3 of the Seville Metro». «It is about deepening the coordination of the works, reconciling the rhythms of subway execution with all the archaeological prospecting work that may be necessary,» added the Minister of Culture.
This protocol establishes a common framework for sharing technical and archaeological information, planning actions, and quickly resolving any unforeseen events that may arise in the work. To carry it out, both Departments will create a monitoring group that will meet regularly to coordinate the work and make decisions in an agile and consensual manner. Likewise, joint actions will be promoted to give visibility to the archaeological findings that may arise during the works and to enhance the discovered heritage, with publications, exhibitions, or outreach activities.
By formalizing this agreement, the Andalusian Government reaffirms its commitment to a more connected, sustainable, and respectful Seville with its history and «an example of good practice in infrastructure execution and historical heritage protection,» concluded Rocío Díaz.
The North Line 3 has been declared a strategically important operation within the framework of Feder 2021-2027. The works consist of a double track, mostly underground, with a length of 7.5 kilometers (plus 1.3 kilometers of technical branch). The commercial route begins in the northern area of the city, next to the Ronda Súpernorte (SE-20) in Pino Montano, and extends to Prado de San Sebastián, where it will connect with Line 1. It has 12 stations, one on the surface and 11 underground.
The route of the North section includes passing by four healthcare centers: the Hospital de San Lázaro, the University Hospital Virgen Macarena, the Victoria Eugenia of the Red Cross, and the Maria Auxiliadora specialty center. The journey will take 18 minutes, with stops at 12 stations.
