La Diputación de Granada invertirá más de 16 millones en carreteras provinciales

The president of the Granada Provincial Council, Francis Rodríguez, along with the deputy for Public Works and Housing, José Ramón Jiménez, and the deputy for Demographic Challenge and Contracting, María Vera, presented the new Strategic Road Plan of the institution, which will involve a historic investment of over 16 million euros to modernize and improve the provincial road network.

This plan builds upon the one approved in June 2024, which had a budget of 6.9 million euros, and expands its scope with an additional budget of 9.2 million, totaling 16,191,120 euros for actions in all regions of the province.

The goal is to enhance safety, mobility, and territorial cohesion through road infrastructures that allow for better connectivity between municipalities, facilitate access to public services, and help sustain population in rural areas.

Rodríguez emphasized during the plan presentation that «this investment reflects the firm commitment of the provincial institution to equal opportunities among all territories. There can be no development, employment, or future in our towns without dignified and safe roads. With this initiative, we take a decisive step to ensure that any resident, regardless of their location, has optimal access to all kinds of services.»

Furthermore, the president stressed that this plan is «not just about asphalt and concrete, but about territorial justice and opportunities. The investments are designed with equity in mind, ensuring that all regions, from the Coast to Huéscar, receive a response to their real needs. The Provincial Council works to ensure that living in a small town does not mean giving up rights, as we aim to continue enriching Granada with life.»

BY REGIONS

In the Metropolitan Area, where population growth has strained existing infrastructures, actions will be taken on the GR-3209 road, connecting Granada with Dílar via Ogíjares and Gójar. A roundabout will be built near Casa Muharra, a high-accident spot, and a third lane towards Granada will be added to ease traffic congestion during peak hours. Additionally, the connection with the A-395 will be improved to facilitate entry from the GR-3209.

On the GR-3301, between Dílar and Otura, two roundabouts will be built to regulate traffic at conflictive access points, and a new sidewalk and bike lane will be constructed. This will allow for safer circulation for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists in an area that previously lacked adequate spaces for sustainable mobility.

In the Coastal region, the plan targets three key roads. The GR-6204, which links the A-4131 with the N-340 at Castillo de Baños, will have dangerous curves smoothed out and protective barriers installed. In Sorvilán, on the GR-6203, the road surface will be improved in the final stretch, and a paved intersection with the N-340 will be constructed. Additionally, in Lentegí, the GR-4301 will be widened in several sections to expand the platform to 7 meters, eliminating risks on a vital access for the municipality.

In the Lecrín Valley and Alpujarra region, the GR-3208, connecting Albuñuelas with the old N-323, will have its final stretch widened, which previously posed serious limitations for the crossing of heavy vehicles. The platform will be expanded, and curves will be corrected to ensure safer transit.

In the Guadix region, the complete reconstruction of the bridge on the GR-4104 road over the Fardes river stands out, which collapsed after the October 2024 DANA. A new single-span structure with greater hydraulic capacity will be erected, and the adjacent road elements will be repaired.

Additionally, a project will be drafted to widen a section of the GR-6102, the main access to the town of Gor, which currently has a narrow section and deteriorated pavement.

In the Altiplano (Baza-Huéscar), the GR-9103 road, the sole access route to the Las Cucharetas area, will undergo a comprehensive pavement reinforcement, drainage improvement, and signage renewal. In Benamaurel, an informative study will be commissioned to define a future alternative route that diverts heavy traffic away from the urban center, where industrial vehicles currently have to traverse the streets to connect with the A-330.

In the Loja, Alhama, and Montes region, interventions will take place on the GR-4402, between Huétor Tájar and the La Fábrica neighborhood, including the installation of a traffic light to reduce speed and a new sidewalk nearly 1.5 km long to facilitate safe pedestrian traffic.

Furthermore, on the GR-3100, linking Venta de la Nava with the province of Jaén, the pavement will be reinforced over more than 6 km, correcting deteriorated sections, and renewing signage and markings.
