The approved Board of Directors Strategic Plan for the integrated environmental management of the Andalusian Health Service Horizon 2030 (PGAI) What is the mission for its health centers to advance environmental performance? The initiative aims to reduce the impact of SAS operations on the environment, promote decarbonization, and encourage the use of renewable energy, among other measures. It also seeks to make the health service more resilient to climate change, working to adapt to its risks.
Therefore, the plan will be developed between 2025 and 2030 and will focus on Continuous improvement in the environmental performance of Andalusian health centers and hospitals as well as their care spaces. With this plan, a progressively decarbonized energy model is tempted, committed to contributing to the mitigation of climate changes, increasing economies, and promoting the use of safe renewable energy, carrying out comprehensive and efficient waste, using water as a limited resource, harnessing its potential to stimulate environmental sustainability in the value chain of the products and services they consume, promoting sustainable mobility, awareness and training of professionals, and being a reference in environmental innovation.
The plan is structured around Ten strategic objectives Marking the priority areas of action. These objectives include: minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the adoption of renewable energy sources; establishing efficient and sustainable waste management that addresses all types of waste generated in SAS facilities; promoting sustainable mobility to reduce transport emissions and minimize impact on air quality; improving energy efficiency in facilities; as well as efficiency in water consumption both in healthcare processes and facilities and in terms of care.
Among the objectives are the promotion of Procurement of sustainable goods and services throughout the value chain; promoting innovation, public-private collaboration, and collaboration with universities and other public entities in search of sustainable health solutions; promoting awareness and sustainability training throughout the organization; promoting transparency and participation in the implementation of Pegai; and establishing a measurement and monitoring system to assess the environmental performance of SAS to understand the evolution of environmental variables that affect us and can make knowledge.
Strategic plan lines
The plan is articulated around Four strategic lines that address different aspects of environmental management. First of these, it refers to environmental and energy governance, with the development of a corporate structure and specialized management bodies. Strategic partnerships and participation in regional, national, and international initiatives will be promoted.
Second The line is related to improving environmental and energy performance, emphasizing sustainable construction of new centers, reducing the carbon footprint, and adopting measures that promote the circular economy. It also includes promoting sustainable mobility and improving efficiency in water and energy.
In Third place The strategic line can be found in terms of the development of assessment and monitoring tools, with certifications and information systems to measure and improve continuous environmental performance. Finally, The fourth line Addresses training and awareness, aimed at both SAS professionals and stakeholders, on issues such as waste, emissions, and climate change. The dissemination of best practices in all health centers is also considered.
