The Official Bulletin of the Junta de Andalucía has published two orders from the Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality related to family economic assistance and the care of families with minors at risk or in need of protection. These are a series of grants and programs that exceed 18.5 million euros.
Firstly, there are more than 3.9 million euros from the budget of the Junta de Andalucía that will be allocated to transfers to the provincial councils and municipalities of towns with more than 20,000 inhabitants for the financing of family economic assistance for the year 2025. In addition to regional funding, there will be a national contribution of approximately 11.3 million euros for this year, bringing the total estimated program funding to 15.2 million euros.
The purpose of these grants is to ensure that children can remain in their environment when dealing with families at risk of exclusion. The funds for managing these grants will be transferred to 96 local entities throughout Andalusia. This year, it is expected to assist around 17,000 families and 32,000 minors. In this way, these grants act from a preventive and empowering approach to situations of poverty or exclusion in favor of children.
Family economic assistance is provided as complementary benefits by community social services, which are temporary, monetary, or in-kind, granted to families to meet the basic needs of the minors in their care when they lack sufficient economic resources.
Family Treatment Teams
On the other hand, the Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality has allocated more than 14.6 million euros to 96 local entities, including the eight provincial councils and 88 municipalities of towns with more than 20,000 inhabitants, for the financing of 156 treatment teams for families with minors at risk or in need of protection. The expectation is to assist around 5,600 families and over 10,500 Andalusian minors through this program.
This amount represents a 6.87% increase from the previous year, resulting in the establishment of three new teams, bringing the total to 156 throughout Andalusia. This funding covers the period from January 1st to December 31st, 2025, as established by the Order published today in the Official Bulletin of the Junta de Andalucía (BOJA).
The objective of this program is to provide families with minors at risk or in need of protection with specific and integrative treatment that allows for the acquisition of rehabilitative measures to address any situation that may directly or indirectly affect the well-being of the minors.
It aims to safeguard the rights of children, promoting their comprehensive development within their family environment and facilitating their return to their original family in cases where family reunification is considered the priority and most suitable alternative for the minors after a protection measure has been adopted.
Currently, these family treatment teams are composed of 496 professionals in the fields of psychology, social work, and social education, along with 96 coordinators operating in 88 towns with more than 20,000 inhabitants and in the eight provincial councils, with the goal of improving the conditions of families at risk, enabling them to fulfill their parental duties effectively and preventing the separation of children from their parents.
With a history of over 20 years of existence, the family treatment teams have served an annual average of approximately 5,600 families and 10,500 minors, preventing the separation of minors from their family environment in over 80% of cases through the interventions carried out. These data underscore the need to support and strengthen the network of family treatment teams and the programs and resources that support families.
