El alcalde de Cogollos de Guadix defiende la legalidad de los pagos y denuncia una «cacería política»

The Mayor of Cogollos de Guadix and provincial deputy for Municipal Assistance and Emergencies in Granada, Eduardo Martos, of the PP, defended on Tuesday the legality of the payments made by the City Council he presides over «as endorsed by the reports of the Secretariat-Intervention of the council.» He also accused the PSOE of launching a «political witch hunt» against him to «evade their responsibilities for all the corruption scandals surrounding them.»

In this regard, he demanded accountability at an informational briefing at the PP headquarters in Granada following the opening of an investigation by the Civil Guard following a complaint filed by representatives of the PSOE and CS, in opposition in the City Council of Cogollos de Guadix.

He especially urged the representatives of the PSOE in Granada to be «equally firm with the corruption cases that stain them,» specifically calling on their general secretary, Pedro Fernández, «who has not yet provided explanations for the Granada connection in the Ábalos-Cerdán-Koldo case and his right-hand man in the Government Delegation of Andalusia.»

According to the PP, Martos detailed that the Intervention of the City Council of Cogollos de Guadix has confirmed that «the entity maintains its accounting in order and in compliance with current regulations» and has confirmed «the complete justification of the expenses referred to in the prior control reports, which were incomplete.

The report, which Martos has made available to the media, also confirms that the council complies with its obligations to provide economic and fiscal information and «denies any sanction or non-compliance by the Court of Auditors or any other supervisory body.»

Therefore, the Mayor of Cogollos de Guadix, Eduardo Martos, defended the legality of the payments made by the council for expenses related to the allowances and transportation of the mayor and the government team, «as endorsed by the report» of the Intervention, which «confirms the correct justification as of June 30 of the current year.»

Martos further stated that the report «denies any sanction by the Court of Auditors or any other body responsible for overseeing the municipal entity for failure to submit information regarding the rendering of general accounts, or for any other reason.»

«Furthermore, it confirms that the council is up to date with quarterly economic information. Regarding the reports of alleged improper payments in the years 2021, 2022, and 2023, the Intervention of the City Council would have confirmed that, after carrying out «an active review, organization, and collection of justifying documentation,» it had included «all the documentation in the file, correcting all the documentary support and regularizing all of them without any objection, thus fully justifying the expenses.»

The Intervention report also attributes the incidents to the lack of personnel, the inefficiency of the company hired to handle the accounting, and the successive replacement of intervention secretaries who held the vacant position in the period 2021-2023, defended Martos, whose dismissal from his positions was requested by the PSOE this past Monday.

The Intervention «is also firm and confirms that the City Council does not have, nor has it had, Bizum payment services in municipal bank accounts, nor does it accept or make cash payments,» he added.

Consequently, Martos has requested a retraction from all those political groups that «have lied to the public without foundation, as now certified by the municipal Intervention,» and indicated that «the budgets of the City Council were definitively approved in March of this year, with no objections raised during the applicable period.

«As of today, as confirmed by the technical report, the City Council complies with the objective of the spending rule and budget stability with a positive treasury surplus,» concluded the Mayor and provincial deputy of the PP, who assured that «as endorsed by the reports of the Intervention,» the council «is up to date with its tax commitments and obligations to Social Security and the Tax Administration.»
