Un millar de docentes analiza los nuevos desafíos del desarrollo educativo en Granada
The technological equipment in Andalusian classrooms, promoting digital competence training for teachers, the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, and responsible technology use are some of the strategic lines for the digitalization of the Andalusian educational system that will be addressed in a meeting bringing together over a thousand teachers at the Granada Congress Palace.
These topics were highlighted by the Minister of Educational Development and Vocational Training, María del Carmen Castillo, during the opening of the third edition of the International Congress of Educational Innovation in Andalusia, taking place until May 17.
The event gathers more than 1,000 teachers from publicly funded schools in Andalusia alongside prominent figures in the national and international educational field to reflect on how digital competence development and innovation can enhance the educational system.
Minister María del Carmen Castillo, accompanied by the Minister of Education and Vocational Training of the Region of Murcia, Víctor Marín, emphasized that digitalization is a major challenge of 21st-century education, contributing to improving academic results and fostering equal opportunities.
Castillo noted, «We are experiencing a historic moment with the emergence of AI, the challenge of diversity in classrooms, and the climate challenges that compel us to rethink how, what, and why we teach.»
The Andalusian Education Minister explained that for the first time this school year, over 281,600 students from 503 schools are being introduced to AI through the Program for Innovation and Learning Improvement, promoted by the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training.
This program aims to «promote practical understanding of basic AI concepts, such as machine learning through projects solving everyday problems, image classification, or content recommendation, in addition to developing digital competence and fostering scientific and technological vocations among students, especially girls,» as detailed by the Andalusian government in a press release.
In her speech, Castillo underscored the Junta’s strong commitment to educational innovation and digitalization, demonstrated by the installation of a total of 59,476 interactive digital classrooms in publicly funded Andalusian schools this year, with an investment exceeding €174 million. In Granada alone, over 6,700 digital classrooms will be installed, valued at €18 million.
Furthermore, more than 91,000 digital devices have been distributed in educational centers, benefiting around 719,000 students, with an investment of over €32 million. In Granada, 6,246 devices worth €18 million have been allocated. The distribution of these resources is part of a program funded by European funds, as stated by the Junta.
It was also highlighted that this equipment is complemented by ongoing teacher training, essential for effective system digitalization. Castillo praised the involvement of Andalusian teachers, evidenced by nearly 99,000 digital competence teacher accreditations since 2022, representing almost 80%.
The training received by teachers, according to Castillo, ensures «the full integration of students into the digital society and the learning of a responsible, safe, and critical use of digital media.»
