The Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality, through the Institute of Andalusian Women (IAM) and in collaboration with the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training, recognized nine projects that Promote gender equality and gender violence prevention in Andalusian Educational Centers during the celebration of the V Andalusian Coeducation Congress, held on January 27 and 28 in Córdoba.
In this edition, not only were research and experiences presented, but also Good practices carried out in Andalusian classrooms on various topics: Inclusive curriculum, non-sexist language, equitable participation, teacher awareness and training, promoting various models, avoiding gender stereotypes, and promoting gender equality in sports. A total of 42 projects were presented. The awards were presented by the Director of the Andalusian Women’s Institute, Olga Carrión, the General Director of Educational Participation and Inclusion, Almudena García, and the President of the Scientific Committee of the Andalusian Coeducation Congress, Consuelo Arrow, during the closing of this forum.
Regarding the good practices developed in non-university education centers 22 requests from three modalities. The three selected initiatives received 500 euros each. In the category of coeducational projects by teachers or students, the winning initiative was «The Daughters of the Sea» developed in the orange groves of Almería. This project makes the relationship of women with the sea visible throughout history. The materials are adapted to different educational stages, from constructing an arch section with a figurehead, a mythological map, signage, or an evacuation room, among others.
As for the projects on co-education carried out by parent associations, the award-winning initiative is entitled «Educating in equality: gender violence prevention from a co-education and community perspective» by the Provincial Federation of Parents’ Associations of Students (FAMPA) of the Los Olivos Center in Linares (Jaén). This project includes the main actions carried out in the school years from 2020 to 2024, covered by innovative programs such as «Family School Co-educators,» digital campaigns, teacher training, and creative events that involved the entire educational community. Over 200 families participated in the workshops, 150 teachers were trained, and co-education materials were created.
On the other hand, in the category of co-education projects carried out by associations, public or private entities that took place in their own premises or in non-university education centers, the initiative awarded was «Breaking myths: Love on Tik Tok. Workshops to prevent gender violence by the social company Jábega in Málaga. This workshop has been implemented in numerous high schools in the province of Málaga and stands out for its participatory and creative approach. The activity is aligned with the objectives of the state pact against gender violence, seeking to change the perception of violence in relationships through critical analysis and rejection of sexist violence.
In addition to the three winning good practices, Three educational centers also received special recognition for their extraordinary work in favor of gender equality and the elimination of gender stereotypes: Nuestra Señora de Andújar School (Jaén) for their work on «Roldana. Brave Sculptor Forgot,» Nazarí School in Salobreña (Granada) for their project «Inclusive Theater with a gender,» and Alfaguar School in Vélez-Málaga (Málaga) for «continuing to combat» the rejection of sexist violence.
Communications and experiences
In the research and experiences block, 20 works were received, 18 were communications, and 2 were posters. The most numerous were on Visibility of women (5), followed by prevention of gender violence (4), emotional and emotional education (3), gender-neutral language (2), gender equality and co-education (2), and with one work: care, reconciliation, and co-responsibility, recognition and respect for diversity, career guidance, and masculinities for a fairer society.
The recognized initiatives were the communication entitled «The main teacher against gender violence: gender awareness and understanding as key skills» by María Pulido from the University of Seville; Secondly, the poster «Gender and psychological violence in teenage couple relationships» by Yolanda Casado, Ángela Muñoz, Raquel Martínez, and Mariya Sofiya from the University of Malaga; and finally, the third badge went to the communication «Talking about women: two strategies to make women visible and detect gender inequalities in university» by María Elena García-Mora from the University of Seville.
The works were evaluated by DO.Ombit científico chaired by the emeritus professor of women’s education history at the University of Seville, Consuelo Arrow, and composed of approximately twenty individuals from public universities and the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training.
