The Junta de Andalucía is making progress in the efforts to restore the functionality of the bottom drains in the Casasola reservoir, located in the province of Málaga. The reservoir was filled with water due to the intense rainfalls in recent weeks, receiving more water than during the storms of October and November.
As announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, actions are being taken to address the issues with draining. An emergency project is underway to construct a drainage pipe that will allow for a discharge of 5 m3 per second.
This project involves connecting the intake points of the supply pipe, located at higher elevations and unaffected by sediment, with the clean and operational bottom drain conduits. This project, expected to be completed next week, is helping to lower the water level in the reservoir so that divers and robots can access the drains.
Additionally, dredging work is being carried out near the mouth of the bottom drains using a crane with a bivalve bucket. The goal is to remove obstructed sediments, lower the water level, and facilitate access to the drains for divers and robots.
At the same time, a precise bathymetry survey is being conducted using a multibeam echo sounder. This study serves the dual purpose of evaluating the volume of accumulated sediment and assessing the dredging work done by the crane with a bivalve bucket. In addition to these inspection tasks, a robot inspection will be conducted on the grate of the drains and from inside the bottom conduits.
The efforts to restore the functionality of the bottom drains in the Casasola reservoir are crucial for managing water levels effectively and ensuring the proper operation of the drainage system. The Junta de Andalucía is committed to completing these tasks promptly to mitigate any potential risks associated with the reservoir’s current state.
La Junta de Andalucía avanza en los trabajos para recuperar la operatividad de los desagües de fondo en el embalse de Casasola, en la provincia de Málaga, que se llenó con las intensas lluvias de las últimas semanas, recibiendo más cantidad de agua que la caída durante las DANAs de octubre y noviembre.
Tal y como anunció el consejero de Agricultura, Pesca, Agua y Desarrollo Rural, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, se llevan a cabo actuaciones para solucionar los problemas surgidos a la hora de desaguar. Para ello, se realiza una obra de emergencia para construir una tubería de desagüe, que permitirá desembalsar 5 m3 por segundo.
Esta actuación consiste en unir las tomas de la tubería de abastecimiento, situadas a costas elevadas y no afectadas por el sedimento, con los conductos de desagüe de fondos que se encuentran limpios y operativos. Gracias a esta obra, que prevé finalizarse la semana que viene, se está contribuyendo a bajar el nivel del agua del embalse para que los buzos y robots puedan acceder a los desagües.
Asimismo, también se realizan trabajos de dragado en las inmediaciones de la boca de los desagües de fondo con una grúa con cuchara bivalva, con el objetivo de extraer los sedimentos obstruidos, bajar el nivel del agua y también acceder a los desagües por parte de buzos y robots.
Simultáneamente, se lleva a cabo una batimetría de precisión con sonda multihaz, un estudio que tiene el doble propósito de evaluar el volumen de sedimento acumulado y valorar el trabajo de dragado realizado por la grúa con cuchara bivalva. Además de esos trabajos de inspección se va a proceder a una inspección con robots en la reja de los desagües y también desde el interior de los conductos de fondo.
