The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has stated that the International Comic Convention of San Diego, known as Comic-Con, which for the first time is leaving the US to come to Europe and will take place from September 25 to 28, consolidates Andalucía as a reference in digital art and pop culture with a worldwide economic and media impact that will exceed 30 million euros by 2025.
Moreno, who attended the presentation of San Diego Comic-Con 2025 in Málaga, has pointed out that Andalucía is an undeniable cultural and tourist power and that this event places Andalucía’s cultural industry in the digital and technological sphere.
He explained that this Convention opens the doors to a unique experience that expects to welcome 60,000 fans, doubling in 2027. «An experience whose value goes beyond being an attraction for fans, tech geeks, and families looking for fun, because Comic-Con is also a hotbed of ideas and a spotlight for Andalucian talent in line with the Andalusian Strategy for Audiovisual Creation and Digital Content approved by the Junta in 2023.»
He affirmed that this event is a window to showcase the great illustrators, film companies, and animation sector already working in Andalucía, for whom Comic-Con is a showcase and a catalyst for creativity and innovation.
The Andalusian President is confident that the expansion of San Diego Comic-Con to Málaga will be a total success over these three years, supported by the network of local professionals and businesses participating in the event.
In this regard, he announced that Comic-Con will open a permanent office headquartered in Málaga. «It is not the first time we see how authentic cultural bastions settle in Málaga, finding their second home here.»

Moreno emphasized that this community is capable of attracting major international events of all kinds, including the Latin Grammys, the Goya Awards, the Davis Cup, and the Solheim Cup.
He reiterated that events like Comic-Con are an opportunity to position Andalucía as an ideal tourist destination for millennials and Gen Z, describing both as a sector of digital natives who give great importance to the opinions and suggestions of other travelers.
In this regard, he stated that Andalucía attracted over 36 million visitors in 2024 with an economic impact of 30 billion euros, and Málaga alone received nearly 10 million tourists in 2024. «Much of this is due to the appeal of events like the one we are presenting today, where 70% of visitors are from outside Andalucía.»
