The Andalusian government continues its commitment to promoting entrepreneurship among women and, on this occasion, launches a training program aimed at teachers with the aim of addressing the gender gap in self-employment from the school stage. This training cycle, promoted by the Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality, through the Andalusian Women’s Institute (IAM), consists of two online sessions that will take place during the first half of April.
This training, divided into two sessions and aimed at Secondary Education and Vocational Training teachers, will address in the first session the gender-focused business project with an analysis from the classroom and, in the second, will present an educational proposal to promote entrepreneurship in class.
In this way, topics such as why start a business and difficulties in starting one, the types of entrepreneurship according to the origin of the idea, the skills and abilities of an entrepreneurial person will be discussed, and statistical data related to employment, companies, and professional training will be presented. The course, now in its fourth edition this year, will conclude with an analysis of the possibilities of implementing an entrepreneurship program in the classroom.
The Minister of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality, Loles López, has highlighted that «the purpose of this project is to support the promotion of entrepreneurship among the female population, especially among young women.» López has emphasized that «in recent years there has been an increase in the number of women deciding to start a business, but there is still a deficit that needs to be corrected.»
Thus, in 2024, more than half of the self-employed individuals in Andalusia were women (53.6%). The number of self-employed women stands at 216,070, representing 37% of the total, and has grown by 17% since 2018, increasing from 185,219 to 216,070.
The Minister of Equality has recalled that this initiative, which will take place on the 1st and 8th of April, is in addition to the agreement signed with Andalucía Emprende for the training of women selected by the Andalusian Women’s Institute, support for entrepreneurial projects, and the creation of companies. «From the IAM, women who wish to start a business will be referred to the Andalusian Entrepreneurship Centers (CADE),» she explained.
The Ministry of University, Research, and Innovation, through Andalucía Emprende, has 259 CADEs that offer a wide range of services aimed at entrepreneurship, such as creating a viability plan, assistance in seeking public and private funding, project tutoring, personalized business training, completely free business accommodation, and access to contacts with other companies and organizations to exchange knowledge and experiences.
