The Hospital Real organized the official presentation of the city, music, and culture of the Citizens’ Laboratories, a pioneering initiative promoted by the Fundación Miguel Ríos and the University of Granada Medialab (UGR), under the Vice President of the Rector for Social Innovation, Employment, and Entrepreneurship, to stimulate participatory culture through culture.
The event was attended by Miguel Ríos and the Vice-Chancellor for social innovation, employability, and entrepreneurship, Esteban Romero, who emphasized the importance of this initiative in building «a more inclusive and participatory culture,» as reported by UGR in a press release after the presentation.
Miguel Ríos stressed the need for initiatives that promote dialogue between music and society, stating that for the foundation, «the ability to bring people’s thoughts and culture is very important.»
«Projects like this, which transform the city and its citizens, are essential to achieve human culture. Despite everything, this project in collaboration with UGR fulfills the core ideology of our foundation: to be useful to the city,» explained the artist from Granada.
Esteban Romero, on his part, emphasized during the presentation that «it is a pride for UGR to generate music.»
The Citizens’ Laboratories presented on Monday were developed by a group of students in extracurricular internships funded by the Fundación Miguel Ríos and coordinated by the Laboratory of Social Media Innovation.
These spaces aim to generate a new dynamic of participation in the city through sound, music, and community. During the presentation, the work lines of the two laboratories were announced: «Llamada,» focusing on safety and nighttime music, and «Granada Sounds» aimed at recovering the solid memory of the city.
The first meeting for the development of laboratories will take place on February 18 at 5:00 p.m. Local groups and interested citizens can learn more about the projects and contribute to the definition of their methodologies.
The work sessions will be conducted in several phases, including group meetings, the use of maps, and interactive records where participants will share their experiences and reflections.
These Citizens’ Laboratories also have the collaboration of Granada and the support of Caja Sonora and Cajagranada Espacio, which facilitate the development of activities.
They are aligned with Granada’s strategy towards the European Capital of Culture 2031, contributing to the visibility of the city’s cultural richness and promoting new forms of citizen participation in the construction of solid narratives, detailed the organizers.
