Juanma Moreno destaca avances en igualdad en Andalucía y llama a combatir la discriminación

The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has reiterated the firm commitment of the Andalusian Government to equality between men and women and highlighted the progress made in this area over the last six years. He also emphasized the importance, on the eve of March 8th, of raising awareness and advocating for real equality and continuing to progress against any form of discrimination.

He indicated that Andalusia is the second region in Spain where female unemployment has decreased the most since 2018, with a decrease of 7.3 points. «We have nearly 70,000 fewer unemployed women than at the end of 2018 and 200,000 more women affiliated with Social Security than in 2018.»

Additionally, he pointed out that the gender pay gap between women and men has decreased and that there are currently 216,000 female self-employed workers in Andalusia, a 16.4% increase from 2018, with more than half of new self-employed workers in 2024 being women.

Moreno mentioned some measures that support this commitment to equality, such as the approval of the Andalusian Pact for Conciliation and Co-responsibility, which includes free two-year-old childcare, or measures against gender-based violence, such as the women’s helpline, which has received 50% more calls than in 2018.

During his intervention in the parliamentary session, the Andalusian President emphasized that Andalusia does not have a debt problem, but a funding problem, as he stated, «Andalusia loses 1.5 billion euros per year under the current funding system,» in addition to the lack of response to the community’s request to create a transitional fund until a new model is agreed upon.

Thus, he assured that the Andalusian Government has deployed a political ethics present in its governance actions, based on commitment to the Andalusian people, reflected in the respect and defense of institutions, the promotion of social dialogue and the ability to reach agreements with social and economic agents and actors, policies in favor of economic growth and employment, leading this community in the reduction of unemployment in Spain in the last year in absolute terms, with forty-six consecutive months of year-on-year unemployment decline, and policies aimed at those who need the most support.

He also highlighted the impetus for ethical commitment to the regeneration of public life in Andalusia, through initiatives such as the Law against Fraud and Corruption in Andalusia and protection of whistleblowers, the creation of the Andalusian Office against Fraud and Corruption, or the Anti-Fraud Measures Plan for 2022 for the management of Recovery and Resilience Mechanism Funds.
