The Minister of the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue, and Administrative Simplification, Antonio Sanz, highlighted in a parliamentary committee that at the Andalusia Institute of Emergencies and Public Safety (Iespa), «1,000 local police officers are currently undergoing training or will soon begin their training, which represents one-tenth of all the agents in our autonomous community, around 10,000 agents.»
Antonio Sanz praised the actions carried out by Iespa in 2024 stating that «it couldn’t be more positive,» emphasizing the fact that less than a month ago, the 53rd Promotion of Entry into the Local Police Forces of Andalusia completed their training and learning period, «resulting in 58 new agents already joining their positions to ensure our safety in 22 Andalusian municipalities».
The Minister highlighted «the extraordinary importance of the work being carried out by Iespa» providing unified training that allows for a common quality standard in the service provided in each Andalusian municipality, while also serving to unify criteria and action protocols. «A training that will be expanded thanks to the agreement we recently signed with the City Council of Linares,» he emphasized.
Antonio Sanz stressed that «the safety of Andalusians and the support for our professionals are absolute priorities for the Government of Juanma Moreno.» In this regard, he recalled the approval of the Local Police Law in July 2023, «of which the Government is particularly proud and has been working on for years.» A text that addresses historical demands and has updated and improved the previous regulation, which was over two decades old, bringing the Local Police Forces into the 21st century.
The Minister concluded by thanking «the work carried out by Iespa, with its director Asunción Grávalos at the helm, for the safety of all Andalusians.»
