El cine y el turismo de Granada conquistan Ámsterdam en el XI Spanish Film Festival.

An expedition of the Provincial Tourism Board of the Granada Provincial Council, together with representatives from the Spanish Tourism Office in The Hague (Netherlands) and the airline Transavia, held a meeting with tour operators, travel agents, and Dutch journalists during the XI Spanish Film Festival, a leading event in the promotion of Spanish cinema in the Netherlands. The festival featured the screening of the film ‘Segundo Premio’, based on the journey of the legendary Granada musical group ‘Los Planetas’, which has recently won three Goya Awards and was the Spanish Film Academy’s candidate for the last edition of the Oscars.

This initiative, carried out at Pathé Tuschinski in Amsterdam (Netherlands), is part of the various promotional activities that the autonomous body of the provincial institution has been conducting in the Netherlands since September 30th, when a new direct flight route between Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, operated by Transavia, was inaugurated. Since then, there have been two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays with a travel time of less than three hours.

During the event, the Provincial Tourism and Heritage delegate, Marta Nievas, stated, «The launch of this flight is a great satisfaction for us, as it translates into facilitating visits of Dutch tourists to our province, and vice versa.» She highlighted that «our work now focuses on promoting the rich and diverse tourist offerings of Granada, aiming to strengthen the destination’s presence in the Dutch market.»

Nievas emphasized that «the Netherlands is currently Granada’s sixth international client, with 45,000 tourists staying in hotels each year.» Granada offers a lot, from the Alhambra, one of the most beautiful monuments in the world, to Sierra Nevada, one of the best ski resorts in Europe, to the Costa Tropical, just over an hour’s drive from the capital, with pleasant temperatures year-round and 73 kilometers of coastline. Additionally, there are five natural parks, a national park, and the Geopark, offering a fascinating journey through time.

The delegate highlighted that «Granada is a unique destination, holding a prominent position internationally and welcoming about six million tourists annually.» She congratulated the entire team of the film ‘Segundo Premio’ for choosing Granada as the location for filming and, of course, ‘Los Planetas’, a musical group that has influenced the lives of many generations, not only in Granada.

Before the film screening, tour operators, travel agents, and specialized media in the tourism sector were able to enjoy an advertisement showcasing all that Granada has to offer. Following the screening, they engaged in a get-together with representatives from the Granada Tourism Board, the Spanish Tourism Office in The Hague, and Transavia.

MEETING WITH TRANSAVIA

Taking advantage of the event, the Tourism delegate of the Granada Provincial Council and the Director of the Provincial Tourism Board, Manuel Muñoz, held a meeting at Transavia’s headquarters in Amsterdam with airline representatives. It was highlighted that Granada is a leisure destination for the Dutch, alongside Malaga, with October being the strongest month due to school holidays in the country, and the Sierra Nevada ski resort being an added incentive.

The provincial institution and the airline agreed to «establish and study a marketing plan to continue promoting this flight, both at origin and destination, as well as all the attractions offered by both cities. In the case of Granada, these include sun, beach, snow, inland, heritage, and gastronomic tourism,» as detailed by the Granada Provincial Council in a press release.
