Coral Bracho inaugura las jornadas de homenaje por el XXI Premio de Poesía ‘Ciudad de Granada’

Mexican poet Coral Bracho, winner of the XXI International Poetry Prize ‘City of Granada – Federico García Lorca’, inaugurated on Wednesday the tribute events organized in her honor with an emotional gathering at the Auditorium of the Federico García Lorca Center.

According to the Granada City Council, 35 people from the reading club and writing workshop of the Municipal Public Library of La Chana participated in the event, «who had the opportunity to engage in a close dialogue with the author about her life, her work, and the poetic creation process.»

This first event of the tribute included a special writing session held on Tuesday, the 17th, at the La Chana Library, conducted by storyteller Cristina Gálvez, which served as preparation for the meeting with the poet.

Today’s activity, held on the stage of the Lorca Center’s theater, allowed attendees to ask questions, share impressions, and receive literary advice from the award-winning poet. The atmosphere was described as «warm and participatory,» in a format that favored intimacy and collective reflection, highlighted the City Council.

Councilor of Culture, Juan Ramón Ferreira, attended the meeting and emphasized the value of these activities in bringing poetry closer to the public. «Coral Bracho not only writes poetry, she shares it generously and with commitment. Listening to her today, in direct dialogue with readers and writers from Granada, is an act of living, intimate, and transformative culture,» he stated.

The events continue this afternoon with a literary program open to the public at the Lorca Center. Starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be a round table discussion about Coral Bracho’s work, with the participation of Jordi Doce, Manuel Borrás, Juan Carlos Abril, and María Elena Higueruelo. Following that, there will be a presentation of the anthology «That Evoked Resonance,» edited by Virgilio Cara for the Granada City Council, and a poetry reading by Coral Bracho herself.

On Thursday, June 19th, at 6:30 p.m., the official inauguration of the events will take place at the Federico García Lorca Center, followed by a recital by Coral Bracho and the colloquium ‘Between Words and Memory’. On the same day, at 7:00 p.m., at the Carmen de los Mártires, there will be the presentation of the commemorative plaque dedicated to Coral Bracho, within the framework of the Poets in the Garden of the Martyrs cycle.

On Friday, June 20th, at 10:30 a.m., the official ceremony for the XXI International Poetry Prize ‘City of Granada – Federico García Lorca’ will be held at the Carmen de los Mártires. The activities will continue in the afternoon with a literary guided tour at 5:00 p.m.; the round table discussion ‘Poetry in the Everyday’ at 6:00 p.m.; a meeting with students at 7:30 p.m.; and the institutional closing at 8:30 p.m.

BRACHO, CURRENT REFERENCE IN SPANISH POETRY

The City Council highlights that Coral Bracho is one of the «most influential» voices in contemporary Spanish-language poetry. Her work, «recognized for its sensory power, demanding lyricism, and ethical commitment,» has been translated into several languages and distinguished with prestigious international awards.

In this sense, the jury of the XXI International Poetry Prize ‘City of Granada – Federico García Lorca’ especially valued her ability to merge the intimate and the political in a language of great beauty and depth.

These events «not only celebrate a prominent literary career, but also reinforce the cultural dimension of Granada as a creative city, open to dialogue and critical thinking,» explained the City Council. They are also part of «the spirit of Granada’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture in 2031, as a demonstration of the institutional commitment to consolidate an inclusive, international, and sustainable cultural project over time.»

The events are organized by Granada City of Literature Unesco and the Granada City Council, with the main collaboration of the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation. All activities are free until capacity is reached, and the complete program can be consulted on the official website: ‘
