The Department of Culture and Sports, through the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions, opens the call (BOJA number 34, dated February 19, 2025) for the creation of a catalog of artists in the singing, dancing, and playing modalities, which will form the basis for the programming of the Andalusian Circuit of Peñas in 2025. The deadline for submitting proposals starts on February 20 and will be valid until March 13.
The call is aimed at private flamenco artists, established in some of the business figures provided by law. It contemplates that, in case there is no legal way to contract with the administration, they can be presented through a single representative. These representatives cannot represent more than ten artists.
Proposals must include the artist’s resume, as well as the duration of the proposal they are submitting for the program and their artistic profile. An Advisory Committee composed of a representative from the Andalusian Confederation of Flamenco Associations, two representatives from Peñas Federations, an advisor from the Andalusian Flamenco Institute, and three experts in the singing, playing, and dancing modalities will study the applications submitted and select the artists to be included in the Catalog for the Andalusian Circuit of Peñas. The selection will be based on criteria of artistic quality, trajectory, interest, future projection, and suitability of the proposal presented for the Circuit.
The call also regulates the fees for each proposal. If the recitals are held within the artist’s province of origin, 950 euros will be paid for dance proposals and 800 euros for singing and playing, while if the recital is scheduled outside the artist’s province of origin, the fees will be 1,200 euros for dance and singing modalities and 1,000 euros for playing.
The application must be completed according to the model on the website of the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions. The generated application (Annex I), signed by the artist themselves or their legal representative, will be addressed to the person in charge of the Directorate of the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions and will be preferably submitted through the General Electronic Submission service of the Andalusian Government, available in the Services and Procedures tab at the following link:
Andalusian Circuit of Peñas
In its last edition, the Andalusian Circuit of Peñas programmed 191 recitals of singing, playing, and dancing in as many peñas of the autonomous community. The cycle starts with the signing of collaboration agreements with each of the provincial federations, with the aim of promoting access to culture for citizens and contributing to the dissemination of flamenco through cultural programs and activities.
It is a program that «meets the objectives set by the Department, as it reaches the public of the eight Andalusian provinces, including those of small municipalities, takes into account the main actors of flamenco, especially young artists who find their first opportunities in the peñas, and serves the peñas of Andalusia, which are true universities of the jondo,» in the words of the Minister of Culture and Sports, Patricia del Pozo.
