Comienza la rehabilitación de la Antigua Posada de La Carolina con una inversión de 368.000 euros

The Tourism and Foreign Affairs Counselor of the Andalusian Government, Arturo Bernal, has participated in the groundbreaking ceremony that marks the start of the rehabilitation works of the Old Inn of La Carolina (Jaén), with an investment of 368,000 million euros allocated from the Tourism Sustainability Plan for Destinations (PSTD).

Accompanied by the mayor of the town, Cristóbal Pérez, he visited the Old Inn of Muleteers, which dates back to the 18th century. It was a crucial infrastructure for hosting travelers, merchants, and mule drivers, serving as a strategic point for freight transportation between Andalusia and the rest of the world.

«We aim to bring back to life a place that bore witness and played a significant role in the history of this great province. Thus, efforts will be made for the recovery and rehabilitation of the space, which exceeds 200 square meters, enhancing the provision of public facilities and utilizing the space as a visitor reception center, safeguarding this heritage,» detailed Bernal. The Tourism Counselor emphasized that the main goal is to «promote this enclave as a cultural and touristic asset, enhancing the offering and experience in this municipality as a destination to boost the region’s economy.» To achieve this – he stressed – «we have great allies in the form of Tourism Sustainability Plans for Destinations

«They are essential for the balanced development of tourism and its intelligent growth, preserving natural and cultural resources, and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors,» he reiterated, pointing out that Andalusia boasts over 83 plans representing an investment exceeding 225 million euros, covering nearly 60% of the territory. In the case of Jaén, over 31 million euros have been allocated, with 2.5 million directed to La Carolina.

Increase in the number of tourists

Bernal highlighted that in the Andalusian Government «we work every day to address the major challenges facing this province.» «Jaén’s leadership is built collectively, and tourism is one of our main drivers for achieving it.» «We believe in this province and in the capacity of its tourism industry as a lever for progress and future for Andalusia,» he emphasized, noting that last year Jaén was the province with the highest increase in tourists, totaling 1,153,380 visitors, representing a 12.7% growth. Additionally, Jaén ranked second in average daily spending per tourist, with an average of 90.5 euros per person.

«We are building a tourism that creates opportunities for all, respects who we are, and showcases to the world all the good we possess. Let’s make this land even more of a leader and filled with more opportunities,» concluded the counselor.

On his part, the mayor of La Carolina, Cristobal Pérez, thanked the Tourism Counselor for his support in benefit of the city after spearheading the project that will revitalize the mentioned property. «Once again, we have the support of the Andalusian Government to activate this emblematic building, a key project of the Tourism Sustainability Plans for Destinations,» he stated.

The mayor of the town of Jaén accompanied the Tourism Counselor in signing the City Council’s book of honor and awarded him the City Medal, while expressing gratitude for his commitment to tourism opportunities to drive the development and progress of La Carolina.
