Andalucía launches groundbreaking digital platform for environmental and geospatial information management.

The Minister of Sustainability and Environment, Catalina García, announced in the Andalusian Parliament that the Junta is working on the project ‘Aidea’ (Innovative Platform for Integrated Spatial Data Analysis of Andalusia), a pioneering digital platform that «will transform the way environmental and geospatial information in the autonomous community is managed.»

During a parliamentary question, García emphasized that this initiative is a response to the need for «digitalization and access to quality information, which are fundamental today,» and that the tool will provide «powerful technology capable of combining, updating, and analyzing thousands of data related to the territory.»

Thanks to ‘Aidea,’ it will be possible to obtain precise and real-time information on environmental, social, agricultural, or health variables, facilitating the planning and management of more effective policies. The Minister also pointed out that it will «provide technological solutions that will enable a better response to complex challenges, such as the effects of climate change, drought, urban planning, or improving healthcare.»

«It will become a key tool for promoting the Andalusian business fabric linked to territorial information, by facilitating the development of new value-added applications. We are talking about a platform designed not only for specialized technicians but also accessible to managers, researchers, and citizens, through intuitive interfaces and even the use of natural language,» emphasized Catalina García.

The Minister of Sustainability also explained during the control session that this project represents the evolution of the Cloud_IA prototype, which had already tested innovative ways of processing data through big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. She emphasized that ‘Aidea’ «goes beyond» because it is a platform «more robust, broader, and with the capacity to operate in multiple areas of the Andalusian government, allowing the Andalusian Administration to be more coordinated, modern, and efficient.»

Likewise, she indicated that ‘Aidea’ has a funding of 12.1 million euros within the framework of the Public Procurement of Innovation program and with the support of the Pluriregional European Funds (FEDER), reinforcing the commitment of the Junta de Andalucía to promote R&D+i through the mechanisms of this instrument, which has been internally driven since 2019.

Finally, she clarified that the ‘Aidea’ project will be developed through five contracts, whose tender is scheduled for the second semester of this year, and whose execution will extend between January 2026 and December 2028.

Improvement of the Soportújar Path

On the other hand, during the plenary session, the Minister also assured that her department has planned various actions to improve forest paths in the municipality of Soportújar (Granada), with the aim of facilitating access, improving road safety, and strengthening the prevention of forest fires. She explained that prior work has already been carried out on specific sections within the RedVia 2021-2024 project, which continues under the Special Plan 2024-2025.

She recalled that in the previous maintenance and modernization project of forest paths in the National Park and the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada 2021-2024, two sections were concreted: the junction with the road, between kilometer points 0 and 0.02, and the curve between points 3.23 and 3.29. In the current modernization project, «this section has been included again to continue interventions on the forest path.» Additionally, «in the coming weeks, a new action project will be launched in Contradique 24 for the maintenance of work already done, which also includes access to the path.»

In this latest action, as the Minister responded in the parliamentary session, work is planned on the Prado Abarca-Padre Eterno path, the Piuca path, and the conditioning of the path and access branch to the Contradique of Dique 24, where the pavement will be improved for vehicle transit, with a budget exceeding 144,000 euros.

Catalina García also celebrated the commitment of the Government of Juanma Moreno to this natural park, stating that since 2019, the investment in the park has exceeded 100 million euros, with a total of 700,000 allocated to the improvement of forest paths. Additionally, «2.5 million has been allocated for the improvement of mountain shelters such as Poqueira and Postero Alto,» and for the creation and improvement of linear infrastructures in fire prevention, the allocation has reached 1.9 million.

Finally, the Minister highlighted the approved 2025 Annual Work Plan, with a budget of 19.4 million, and the international recognitions of the park, which has renewed its status on the IUCN Green List and the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, and is currently in the process of obtaining the European Diploma from the Council of Europe.
