La Junta de Andalucía reaffirms its commitment to the growth and sustainability of Andalusian fishing and aquaculture sectors with the launch of three new grant calls totaling over 15 million euros, aimed at boosting the transformation, marketing, and innovation of the sector during the 2025-2027 period.
This announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, during his visit to the aquaculture facilities of COOKE Spain (Culmarex Group) off the coast of Almería. The minister emphasized that «aquaculture is a strategic pillar within the sustainable blue economy model promoted by the Government of Juanma Moreno, and a great opportunity to continue generating green jobs and economic development on the Andalusian coast.»
Of the newly announced grants, 10.5 million euros will be allocated to projects for the transformation and marketing of fish and aquaculture products, while 2.2 million euros will go towards productive investments in aquaculture, and over two and a half million euros to initiatives promoted by the Local Action Groups of the Fishing and Aquaculture Sector (GALPA) throughout Andalusia. These support lines are funded by the European Maritime, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Fund (FEMPA).
A key sector for Almería and Andalusia
Andalusia, and especially Almería, have become national benchmarks in marine aquaculture. «The Junta de Andalucía stands by the sector, betting on innovation, sustainability, and the generation of stable employment on our coast. Aquaculture is the present and future, and from the Andalusian Government, we will continue working to make Andalusia a leader in sustainable production and blue economy,» he assured.
Furthermore, the president of the Almería Port Authority, Rosario Soto, thanked the minister for his visit to the port of Almería to closely observe the work of an aquaculture company with both land and water concessions. «This company represents an important part of the business fabric that we are promoting from the port, contributing to dynamizing the province’s economy and generating employment, something essential from the public responsibility we assume,» Soto pointed out.
