The Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC), dependent on the Consejería de Cultura y Deporte of the Junta de Andalucía, will host a new session of the program ‘Danza en el CAAC’ on Sunday, April 27th at 12:00. The event will feature two choreographic pieces in dialogue with the museum’s architecture and surroundings. The works ‘Verdor’ by the Sevillian company Manuela Nogales Danza, and ‘El grito del elefante’ by Guillermo Weickert (Seville) along with Zuriñe Benavente & Ignacio Monterrubio (Pamplona) from Altrastre Danza, will be performed in two outdoor locations at CAAC, with free entry until full capacity is reached.
The day will start with the piece ‘Verdor’ by the company Manuela Nogales Danza, performed by Carmen Cruz and with original music by Lehónidas Boskovec, which will take place in the Huerta del CAAC. With a duration of 12 minutes, the piece aims to unearth what remains hidden and dormant, with the goal of awakening and reviving the inner energy from the uniqueness of the individual. Choreographer Manuela Nogales, a pioneer of contemporary dance in Andalucía, has a vast experience working with her own company and private companies, nationally and internationally. She has been recognized with awards such as the Dance Show Award, Dancers Award for the show ‘Summa’ at the Escenarios de Sevilla Awards 2024, and Choreography Award for the show ‘Minimal singular’ at the Escenarios de Sevilla Awards 2023, among others.
‘El grito del elefante’, on the other hand, will be performed in the Refectory area and will have a duration of 45 minutes. The piece is a real-time composition where artists Guillermo Weickert, Zuriñe Benavente, and Ignacio Monterrubio share the stage in a context where listening, the relationship with space, the audience, objects, and music are the fundamental basis of the action. Directed by Zuriñe Benavente with the collaboration of Iñaki Azpillaga, it is a production of Altraste Danza. The company focuses on movement work and new body languages through creation, research, training, and mediation with audiences. Their creations highlight the fusion of music, dance, and text, with a performative language, aiming for closeness and dialogue with the audience. Among their projects, they stand out for directing and coordinating the International Dance and Movement Festival DANZÁLAVA based at the Contemporary Art Museum of the Basque Country ARTIUM in Vitoria / Gasteiz.
About ‘Danza en el CAAC’
Following the success of its first edition in 2024, the museum continues its commitment to this contemporary dance cycle curated by María González, establishing itself as a key platform for choreographic diffusion in Andalucía. ‘Danza en el CAAC’ will take place on the last Sundays of March, April, May, September, October, and November. Each session will have free entry until full capacity is reached and will start at 12:00.
The new edition will continue its goal of promoting contemporary dance and showcasing the work of Andalusian creators, both those working within the community and those outside of it but maintaining a connection with Andalucía.
‘Danza en el CAAC’ aims to create a dialogue between dance and the museum’s historical spaces, turning each performance into a unique experience where performers interact with the architectural environment, enriching the relationship between the audience and the piece.
